Chief Inspector's BadgePositive steps follow horse cull investigation

Following reports into a recent horse cull in the Kimberley, the RSPCA has released the following statement:

Our investigation into the feral horse cull by the Department of Agriculture and Food WA (DAFWA) in the Kimberley has concluded. We are satisfied the cull was conducted in accordance with relevant codes of practice. However there is evidence that a small number of horses were injured, rather than killed. This is of concern not only to the RSPCA but also to DAFWA. As a consequence DAFWA has agreed to include the RSPCA in consultations prior to future culls to ensure they proceed in a manner consistent with the RSPCA’s policies on humane killing. These consultations will also include discussions on alternative means of controlling feral animals where appropriate.
