RSPCA urges witnesses to come forward after savage attack on Kangaroo
December 30 2008
The RSPCA has condemned the savage killing of a kangaroo - believed to be a young, adult male - at the Rockingham golf course found Monday morning by ground staff.
The kangaroo's genitals were mutilated, and it had been decapitated.
"Words cannot express how repulsive this vicious attack was," said Richard Barry, spokesperson for the RSPCA in WA. "The fact that there are people living amongst us who would attack an animal and subject it to a terrifying end that resulted in its head being cut from its body should be of grave concern to everyone living in this State.
"For anyone who has information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of this heinous attack I would ask them to consider the consequences of them doing nothing. Today, the target of their crazed violence is a kangaroo. Tomorrow it could be a human being. Evidence suggests a strong correlation between acts of violence against animals and, later, against humans."
The attack took place either Sunday or early Monday morning and anyone with information that could lead to the prosecution of the culprits are urged to call 9209 9316 or make a complaint online.
"It is very important that these people are caught and brought to justice," said Barry. This isn't the first time we have seen kangaroos attacked in the most brutal way and only when the culprit or culprits are caught, can the judiciary send a clear message that this is unacceptable. If you know something about this attack, either call us, or call the police but please, don't do nothing."
