Calling all Million Paws Walk Volunteers!

April 1 2009

There's a strange buzz coming from the RSPCA HQ in Malaga at the moment. As well as the dogs barking and the sound of our goats and horses vying for attention, there's the unmistakable sound of keyboards being bashed, fingers speedily tapping out letters and memos and invites.

When Million Paws Walk arrives, its time to get organised and our administrative staff are working double-time to ensure everything is organised for May 17th when 15,000 people and their dogs are expected to turn up at Sir James Mitchell Park for one of Perth's biggest days out.

"Million Paws Walk might seem like a walk in the park but let me tell you, this is a monster to organise" says Richard Barry, spokesperson for the RSPCA in Western Australia. "Right now everyone is working double-time to make sure the event goes smoothly and one thing that isn't going very smoothly is our volunteer call. We need people interested in volunteering to send us an email so we can organise them for the big day."

Every year around 250 volunteers are involved in making a Million Paws Walk go smoothly with jobs ranging from setting up stands and stalls to manning the registrations area.

"There's such a massive array of jobs to do and volunteers are our key to having the day go without any hitches," says Barry. "I know it's probably a cliche but really, without our volunteers, we simply wouldn't be able to do half of the jobs we do and Million Paws Walk would be a disaster without them."

If you think you could volunteer to help us on Sunday 17th May, drop us an email (please do not call us!!!). The day starts for volunteers at around 5am so "early birds" only need apply!

Send your email to: rspca@rspcawa.asn.au

Please do not call us to apply. Many thanks for your understanding
