An investigation is under way into another shocking case of cruelty involving a kangaroo.

The RSPCA has launched an urgent appeal for information after the disturbing discovery of a kangaroo garrotted by a wire snare on a rural property in Manjimup.

The marsupial’s partly decomposed remains were found hanging from the home-made noose by the RSPCA’s Great Southern Inspector earlier this week.

Four other purpose-built wire snares were found attached to a fence on the property located near bushland adjoining a bluegum plantation.

RSPCA spokesperson Richard Barry said the kangaroo would have suffered terribly. “The juvenile animal would have been slowly strangled by this purpose-built noose, dying a painful and prolonged death,” said Mr Barry. “Needless to say setting snares to kill any animal is both inhumane and illegal.

“The noose is designed specifically so that as a kangaroo bounds through the area, its head would become ensnared in the noose, basically hanging the animal.”

This incident targeting our national emblem is the latest in a string of sickening assaults, including the mutilation of a kangaroo at the Rockingham golf course and violent bashing of a kangaroo caught on video.
