Woman charged with five counts of animal cruelty
July 22 2009
The RSPCA has charged a woman from Greenough with five counts of animal cruelty relating to seven horses and a goose.
In March RSPCA Inspectors attended a property in Greenough following multiple complaints from members of the public. On arrival, Inspectors found several animals whose welfare gave cause for concern.
Inspectors seized seven horses and one goose. No details on the whereabouts of these animals can be given at this time.
The RSPCA will allege that for a period of months leading up to 29 June 2009 the accused was cruel to the Animals in breach of section 19(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2002 (Act) in that the accused, contrary to section 19(3)(d) of the Act, did not provide the Animals with proper and sufficient food; 19(3)(b) confined an Animal in a manner that causes or is likely to cause unnecessary harm and; 19(3)(h) the Animals suffered harm which could have been alleviated by the taking of reasonable steps.
The matter is listed at 9.30am. on August 20th 2009 in Geraldton Magistrates Court.
