duckCrossbow attack on duck - RSPCA appeals for help

29 June 2009

The RSPCA is appealing for witnesses following a mindless attack on a duck where a crossbow was used to shoot the animal which was then left to suffer with the bolt impaled in its body.

Just before 11am on Sunday 28th June 2009 as RSPCA Inspector attended Kingsbridge park/lake in Butler following a complaint from a member of public stating a Duck had been shot with a crossbow.

The Duck which was still alive and suffering from an arrow which had penetrated the chest cavity, exiting from the opposite side. It is believed the arrow remained lodged in the animal’s body for several hours.

Concerned residents caught the duck which was immediately brought to a vet to be euthanased.

A search of the park was conducted and the remaining ducks appeared uninjured. However, a second crossbow arrow (broken) was found in the undergrowth near the bridge. This arrow has blood on it and the police have been engaged to see if it has any forensic merit.
