A kangaroo has been found with its front paws mutilatedAppeal for information after kangaroo found with front paws mutilated

June 15 2009

The RSPCA of WA is appealing for witnesses after a kangaroo was found at the weekend with one of its front paws amputated and the other severely mutilated.

The kangaroo, believed to be a juvenile under two-years-old, was seen, alive, by a couple in the Len Howard Conservation Reserve with extensive bleeding coming from what was left of its paws.

They called the City of Mandurah who immediately sent two rangers to the spot.

Unfortunately the kangaroo had to be euthanased.

“It is unclear as to how this happened” said Richard Barry, spokesperson for the RSPCA “but it is almost irrelevant because whether a knife was used or some sort of a trap, an act of savage cruelty has taken place here leaving a young roo in what must have been excruciating pain for several hours.

“We are calling for anyone who might have information about this horrendous incident to contact us directly on 9209 9300 or to call CrimeStoppers.

“Please contact us, the worst thing you can do if you know something is not call us, or contact us by email. There is a strong correlation between acts of cruelty like this and violence to humans and by doing nothing you could be allowing the perpetrator to continue practicing on animals before he or they progress to a human.”
