$3000 fine handed down for kangaroo beheading
Friday March 6
18-year-old Shannon Christopher Conway today received a $3000 fine for his role in the brutal slaughter of a kangaroo found beheaded and gutted in Dawesville by police last month.
Conway appeared at Mandurah magistrates court Friday morning to face sentencing after pleading guilty for his part in the slaying on February 16.
Conway was also ordered to pay $60 in costs.
The RSPCA has expressed its dissapointment at the fine. "Obviously with an attack as brutal as this the RSPCA would welcome a stronger sentence and we are dissapointed with today's outcome," said Richard Barry, spokesperson for the RSPCA in WA.
A second man, Thomas Forward, 20-years-old of Falcon, pleaded not guilty to charges of being cruel to an animal and will appear in Mandurah Magistrates Court for trial in June.
