Last chance to pre-register for the Walk!

May 8 2009

Today is the last day you can pre-register for this year's Million Paws Walk which will save you money and ensure that you don't get stuck in a long queue on Sunday 17th May.

If you haven't already registered for the Million Paws Walk, please click here to be taken to our registration site. YOu might want to think about entering this year's raffle to and you can buy 5 tickets for an extra $5 if youi pre-register saving you $5 and putting you in the running for one of these amazing cars.

Last year an estimated 15,000 people and their dogs walked the Walk in Perth. That's in the region of 90,000 feet and paws...

On May 17th 2009, the city of Perth will shudder under the combined weight of more than 100,000 feet and paws as Million Paws Walk gets underway with experts predicting around 20,000 people and their pets will step out to raise funds for the animal charity.

“It may be the fact that we have been challenged by the Eastern States this year” said Richard Barry, spokesperson for the RSPCA in WA. “Or maybe it’s because people understand that in these uncertain economic times the pressure is on... Whatever it is, we are counting on 20,000 people and their pets attending this year’s Walk to support the RSPCA.”

This year’s event will see the return of the celebrity challenge with RSPCA celebrity Ambassadors pitching their wits against some of the nimblest dogs in Australia. And speaking of celebrities, how’s this for a line-up:

Karate knock-out Jessica Bratich
Cricketing superstar Mitchell Johnson
Eagles legend Michael Braun (there’s a rumour he’ll be locked in a large perspex box!)
Weatherman extraordinaire Michael Schultze
Pop-sensation Claire Clark (Claire will be doing a live set)
94.5’s The Big Couch with our newest ambassador, Lisa Fernandez.

And if that wasn’t enough we are also delighted to announce that this year’s Million Paws Walk will be opened by the Premier whose attendance underlines the vital role the RSPCA plays in Western Australia.

Gates open at 8am when all the fun, food and entertainment kicks off, giving us two hours to get everyone registered. It’s worth noting that pre-registration ends tomorrow night (Friday 8th May) at Midnight.

Participants will again be able to enter their pets into our ever-popular Pet Show, seeking fame and glory as the Most Obedient Pet, the Most Attractive Pet, or the one with the Waggiest Tail.

We also have new addition to this year’s attractions in the shape of a childrens train which will snake its way around the Walk. There’s a ferris wheel, a bouncy castle, a merry-go-round, dog washes, pet photography, and a whole host of other fantastic events taking place on the day.

There’s also this year’s Million Paws Walk Raffle which will see some lucky pet owner driving off in a brand new Hyundai i30 SX.

If you miss the pre-registration you can register on the day, so pull on your walking shoes, grab the leash and bring your four-legged friend to the 2009 Million Paws Walk at Sir James Mitchell Park, South Perth - right on the foreshore.

Even if you don’t have a pet, come along anyway… who knows, by the end of it you may have adopted one of our rescue dogs who will be there to explain what the event is all about.

Participants can choose between a leisurely 2km stroll or go the whole distance in the 5km Walk.

Either way, you can see why the Million Paws Walk is the must-do event on the calendar of all animal-lovers in Western Australia each year.
