RSPCA Charges Waroona Farmer Over Starved Cattle
September 30 2009
The RSPCA in Western Australia has charged a 71-year-old man under the Animal Welfare Act (2002) in relation to a large herd of cattle kept on a farm in Waroona, WA.
The RSPCA will allege that the accused was cruel to around 150 cattle as he did not provide them with proper and sufficient food, contrary to 19(1),19(3)(d), of the Act.
The RSPCA was assisted by Police, two veterinary surgeons, two animal welfare general inspectors from the Department of Local Government and several locals who formed part of the comprehensive investigation team revealing that 150 cattle were subject to poor health and bodily condition from sustained insufficient feed.
