Waroona farmerWaroona farmer trial begins

8 February 2010

71-year-old Geoffrey James Mullins will appear at Mandurah Magistrate’s Court on Monday 08 February to face charges under the Animal Welfare Act (2002) in relation to a large herd of cattle kept on a farm in Waroona, WA.

The RSPCA will allege that the accused was cruel to around 150 cattle as he did not provide them with proper and sufficient food, contrary to 19(1),19(3)(d), of the Act.

The RSPCA was assisted by Police, two veterinary surgeons, two animal welfare general inspectors from the Department of Local Government and several locals who formed part of the comprehensive investigation team revealing that 150 cattle were subject to poor health and bodily condition from sustained insufficient feed.

The two-day trial is set to begin Monday and conclude Thursday 11th February 2010.
