Protecting our Wildlife

Illegal wildlife activities pose a serious threat to animal welfare. Illegal activities may include collecting and trading in wild animals without a licence or keeping banned species. Animals affected by illegal activities are often captured, handled, transported and kept in unacceptable conditions.

In the worst cases, animals lose their lives for example if they are squashed into small packages to be smuggled and deprived of food and water. The animals are often destined for the domestic and international pet trade where, as wild animals not used to living in captivity, they suffer further. The RSPCA encourages everyone to look out for any potential illegal activities involving wildlife.

Be a champion for wildlife welfare and report illegal activity to the Department of Parks and Wildlife (Wildlife Watch Hotline freecall 1800 449 453).
