Joy jumping for RSPCA WA

Joy Jeffes is one adventurous 91 year old and on Saturday 7 March will skydive over the CBD to raise funds for RSPCA WA.

Joy, a regular supporter of RSPCA and a number of other animal charities, said skydiving was top of her bucket list.

“Having lived in Pinjarra I would see people skydiving all the time and have longed to do it, so when I saw the fundraising jump in the RSPCA newsletter I phoned them straight away.

“I wanted to do it before I got a day older!

“I am very excited and over the moon, although my family and friends think I am mad.

“Word has got out around Mandurah that I am jumping, so I am now known as the crazy lady!” Mrs Jeffes said.

Joy was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2003 and Order of Australia medal in 2004 for her service to seniors and the environment.

She served as a Murray Shire Councillor from 1979 to 1987 and is currently a director of Peel Health Foundation (fundraising) and Peel Health Campus Community Board of Advice (administration).

RSPCA WA CEO David van Ooran said “being 91 years old and willing to jump out of a plane to help animals, Joy Jeffes is an inspiration!”

“Having done it myself last year I know what an exhilarating way it is to raise money.

“But, if the thought of jumping from a plane is too much and you want to keep your feet planted firmly on the ground, you can still make a difference by sponsoring someone who is.

“It’s people like Joy who are really helping to make a difference for animals and we are immensely grateful for their support.

“Their generosity helps to bring justice for animals who have been neglected or cruelly treated and continue to improve animal welfare standards across the community,” Mr van Ooran said.

Joy will be joined by nine other thrill seekers from across the metropolitan area and funds raised will directly help all creatures great and small across Western Australia.

RSPCA WA relies on community support for 94% of its income.
