Mount Barker man fined for malicious beating

Thomas Herbert GLASS (23) of Mount Barker was convicted today in Albany Magistrates Court to a $2,500 fine plus $182.30 costs.

Last week Mr Glass pleaded guilty to maliciously beating Dex, a tan Staffordshire puppy.

Dex was seized by a RSPCA WA inspector and an examination by a vet revealed previous trauma to his skull and a healed rib fracture.

RSPCA WA Chief Inspector Amanda Swift said the deliberate cruel treatment of animals will not be tolerated and RSPCA will take action against people who treat their animals in this manner.

"This is the second case in two days of a dog being maliciously beaten, I hope this is sending a clear message that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and is punishable in a court of law.

"We are pleased that after spending a considerable amount of time with us Dex has now found a loving home," Chief Inspector Swift said.
