Progress Statement: Report on chicken farm in Forrestdale

RSPCA WA Inspectors made a site inspection yesterday as a result of a report made regarding the treatment of hens at a chicken farm in Forrestdale.

Footage provided showing practices on the farm was shocking. The way in which these chickens were handled and euthanised is not reflective of best industry practice.

Unfortunately, there is a lack of legislative standards for the industry in relation to on-farm euthanasia of spent layer hens.

Best practice guidelines developed by the Australian Egg Corporation Limited in 2015 recognise deficiencies similar to the methods observed in Forrestdale yesterday. RSPCA WA calls on the industry and farm owners to urgently adopt these best practice guidelines to achieve better animal welfare.

RSPCA WA Inspectors are continuing with their investigations.

    Hello

    Hens in Forrestdale
Is it possible to purchase these hens at a $1.00 each?.
I am on half acre block in the Kelmscott hills and have bought these hens before at $5.00, as you probably know they require extra care and food to recover.
