The RSPCA is appalled that an 18-month old female cat, Stella, has had its leg amputated after being shot with what appears to be a small-calibre rifle, somewhere in the vicinity of Leichardt Road in Broome.

The RSPCA boarded the live export ship Pearl of Para last night in Fremantle to check on the welfare of the 5240 cattle on board. The cattle appeared to be in good condition and Inspectors found no breaches of the Animal Welfare Act.

A Doubleview man today pleaded guilty to one charge of animal cruelty and was fined $7500, banned from owning dogs for 18 months and ordered to pay costs to the RSPCA of $1370.

A South Australian woman, who formerly lived in Maida Vale in WA, was today sentenced in her absence for animal cruelty in Midland Magistrates Court and fined $8000, and ordered to pay RSPCA costs of approximately $7500 after being found guilty of one count of animal cruelty.

A Huntingdale woman was today found guilty of animal cruelty, in her absence, and banned for six years from owning animals and fined $5,000 for neglecting her dog. RSPCA was awarded costs of approximately $670 in relation to veterinary and associated costs.

A Hamilton Hill woman was today found guilty, in her absence, of animal cruelty in Fremantle Magistrates Court and was fined $2,000 and banned for five years from owning animals.

A Coodanup woman was fined a total of $48,000 and banned for life from ever owning pets after being sentenced in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Friday 12 July.
