RSPCA WA has received a number of reports of animal baiting around Perth and regional areas. RSPCA WA is warning owners to keep an eye on their pets, and reminding people that baiting is a criminal offence with serious consequences.

RSPCA WA understands that people might be concerned about what to do if they are attacked by a dog. Dog attacks occur for a variety of reasons, and breed alone is not a reliable predictor of aggressive behavior.

RSPCA WA welcomes today’s announcement by the Minister for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence, the Hon Simone McGurk MLA, of a one-off funding commitment of $100,000 by the WA Labor Government to support the organisation’s Pets in Crisis trial program.
The Pets in Crisis program offers a temporary home for pets from households experiencing family and domestic violence while their owner seeks refuge or temporary accommodation of their own, helping to alleviate some of the logistical stress of removing themselves and their loved ones from a dangerous home environment.

RSPCA WA is trialing a new scheme offering practical support to pet owners who are living in a domestic violence household.
Through a network of dedicated foster carers, RSPCA WA will temporarily care for victims’ pets while they find alternative housing, and is calling for those interested in becoming a foster carer for the scheme to register their interest - to support the scheme’s viability and see it established as a permanent, long-term service.

RSPCA WA is urging dog owners to listen to its warning about leaving their dog in a car on a hot day, following a number of new incidents and continual reports to its cruelty line.
Despite widespread publicity in recent years about the dangers of leaving a dog in a hot car, people are ignorantly still putting their dog’s health and life at risk.

Ending irresponsible dog breeding is one of five key animal welfare issues on which the RSPCA plans to campaign in the lead up to the WA State Election in March 2017.
RSPCA WA President, Lynne Bradshaw, said the organisation aimed to get support on the issue from all political parties contesting the election, with WA Labor first to get on board.

The RSPCA has today welcomed the landmark decision by Harness Racing Australia to ban the use of the whip in racing from 1 September 2017.
RSPCA Australia CEO Heather Neil said the removal of whips from harness racing will go a long way towards protecting harness racing horses from unnecessary and unjustified pain and distress.
