RSPCA WA’S ANIMAL CRIMESTOPPERS – UNSOLVED CRUELTY CASES NEED PUBLIC HELP

RSPCA WA is appealing to the WA public for assistance in solving several disturbing acts of animal cruelty that occurred in the last eighteen months, with the perpetrators still at large and yet to be held accountable for the crimes they have committed.

Despite the widespread publicity surrounding the cases, and the information provided by members of the public at the time, a person of interest could not be identified or located in any investigations that followed.

Figures from the RSPCA 24/7 Cruelty Hotline are showing little to no change in WA’s animal cruelty hotspots from 2016 to 2017, with some suburbs on track to record the highest number of cruelty reports for a second year in a row.

MEDINA WOMAN SENTENCED FOR NEGLECTING TWO DOGS

Armadale Magistrates Court sentenced a woman on Friday for cruelty to her two dogs, following her failure to adhere to direction notices issued by RSPCA WA Inspectors in July 2016.

Tamahne Ketchup, 29, of Medina was fined $4000 plus costs, and prohibited from being in charge of any dog for three years, for two charges of animal cruelty to her Shar Pei dogs, Marna and Parley.

“RSPCA WA is obviously shocked, saddened and disgusted to hear about the incident last night in Mirrabooka, where a Labrador dog was stabbed and died. Our thoughts are with the dog’s owner and family.

“The public reaction to this senseless act proves that the community of WA does not tolerate cruelty towards animals.

RSPCA WA LAUNCHES CONFRONTING APPEAL TO GET MORE INSPECTORS ON WA ROADS

On Monday 8 May, RSPCA WA will launch the biggest appeal of its 125 year history, asking every household in Western Australia to help put more Animal Welfare Inspectors on WA roads.

Aptly named ‘20for20’ – the appeal will call on every West Australian to chip in $20 to increase the number of RSPCA Inspectors across the State to twenty; almost double the current number of Inspectors covering the whole of WA.

Today two people were sentenced at Merredin Magistrates Court for fourteen animal cruelty offences relating to horses and dogs at a property in South Trayning following an investigation by RSPCA WA Inspectors that commenced in March 2016.

This week Mathew Bacich was sentenced after pleading guilty to cruelty to his dog, Bruce, a pug-cross, on 14 September 2016.

The acts of cruelty inflicted upon Bruce were disturbing and deplorable.

CONVICTION FOR GREAT SOUTHERN MAN OVER NEGLECT OF TWO PET DOGS

A Great Southern man has today been convicted of animal cruelty in the Albany Magistrates Court for neglect of his two dogs.

Philip Tsipouras, 34, of Mira Mar pleaded guilty to the two charges which related to his two dogs Rosie, a Mastiff cross and Alice, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross.
