RSPCA WA Chair, Lynne Bradshaw, AM, welcomes news that WA Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has charged a Perth-based live export company and two of its Directors, with alleged animal cruelty under WA’s Animal Welfare Act 2002.

RSPCA Australia is calling on the live export industry to voluntarily stop sending cattle to Vietnam until an independent review of the Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) can be completed.

The Australian Veterinary Association held its annual national conference in Perth in mid-May. A keynote speaker, one of the world’s foremost animal welfare experts – recognised as such by the Australian Government – said long-haul live animal exports are too high a risk and should not take place.
